Spatial audio recreates or invents three-dimensional sound. Where stereo is limited to a left-right image between two loudspeakers, a spatial system can place sounds all around the listener, above and below, and at varying distances. Once you understand how we hear space and how it is encoded, the techniques that follow, and the tools that implement them, become much easier to grasp.
